Secondo Jack Cashill di World Net Daily, "ci sono ottime ragioni per credere che lo stesso Wilson abbia rivelato l'identità della Plame a Nicholas Kristof del New York Times all'inizio del maggio 2003, almeno un mese prima della soffiata fatta a Woodward". E dunque due mesi prima che Libby parlasse con Judith Miller (sempre del New York Times). La "gola profonda" dello scandalo che, nei sogni dei liberal, avrebbe dovuto far crollare l'amministrazione Bush, sarebbe insomma lo stesso marito di Valerie Plane, Joseph Wilson. Cashill ha ripescato un vecchio articolo di Vanity Fair (gennaio 2004) da cui effettivamente l'ipotesi-Wilson emerge come la più probabile. Una cosa è certa. Più si va in profondità, più risulta evidente che in questa storia c'è un solo, grosso, scandalo: che la "strana coppia" Wilson-Plame sia stata mandata in giro per il mondo a rappresentare gli Stati Uniti d'America.
