Sir Friedrich aveva perfettamente ragione a meravigliarsi del fatto che la destra avesse lasciato alla sinistra l'uso di questo "almost indispensable term". Ma ormai il danno è fatto. E a me, personalmente, interessa vincere la battaglia delle idee, non quella delle parole.a manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15762534945576502939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8501186.post-1108169696769916022005-02-12T01:54:00.000+01:002005-02-12T01:54:00.000+01:00non vorrei farmi la figura del coglionazzo, ma mi ...non vorrei farmi la figura del coglionazzo, ma mi sembra che qui si parlasse della traduzione di "liberal" un po' di tempo fa.<br />Nella Capital of the Free World sto leggendo The Road to Serfdom (non è necessario dire chi è l'autore), ebbene, nella prefazione del 1956 scrive:<br />"The fact that this book was originally written with only the British public in mind does not appear to have seriously affected its intelligibility for the American reader. But there is one point of phraseology which I ought to explain here to forestall any misunderstanding. I use throughout the term "liberal" in the original, nineteenth-century sense in which it is still current in Britain. In current American usage it often means very nearly opposite of this. It has been part of the camouflage of leftish movements in this country, helped by the muddleheadedness of many who really believe in liberty, that "liberal" has come to mean tha advocacy of almost every kind of goverment controlo. I am still puzzled why whose in the United States who truly believe in liberty should not only have allowed the left to appropriate this almost indispensavle term but should even have assisted by beginning to use it themeselves as a term of opprobium.<br />aa (M&A - 2twins)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8501186.post-1108155740266602032005-02-11T22:02:00.000+01:002005-02-11T22:02:00.000+01:00LOL!
